Knox County Community Action Agency – Office on Aging
The Office on Aging provides a wide variety of programs and information for older adults and their families in Knoxville and Knox County. The CAC Office on Aging is a public nonprofit agency. It has the major responsibility in Knoxville and Knox County of planning for services for senior citizens; assessing needs of older citizens and developing resources to meet those needs; coordinating services for the elderly to minimize duplication and avoid overlap–whether provided by public, nonprofit, or for-profit organizations; providing information about services and programs to older citizens and their families and connecting them to those services; and advocating on behalf of older citizens.

O’Connor programming falls into five categories: Education, Recreation, Physical Fitness, Health Education and Health Screenings. The Internet Cafe is open daily and a variety of classes offer instruction related to the use of Mac/Apple and Android smart phones, computers, tablets, social media.

Mobile Meals is the Meals on Wheels program in Knoxville and Knox County TN. The Mobile Meals program serves: Noon meals, Five days a week and holidays, To Knoxville and Knox County citizens, Who are at least 60 years old, Who cannot cook for themselves and have no one to prepare meals for them.

Mission Statement: To increase access to community resources and services for Knoxville-Knox County residents who have no other means of transportation by providing safe, reasonably comfortable transportation.
Knox County CAC Transit provides accessible, demand response public transportation services to the residents of Knox County who live within Knox County outside of the City of Knoxville, to those individuals who live within the City of Knoxville outside the KAT service area, and to those city residents who are not served by the KAT fixed route system, including those who live too far from a bus stop or who’s destination is not within the KAT service area.
Rides must be scheduled by no later than 11:00 a.m. the day before your appointment.
Transportation is provided to medical appointments, grocery shopping and other essential errands.
Transportation is provided to employment and training 24/7, however, funding is limited.
Lift-equipped vehicles available.
Transportation Fares – One-way Trips – $2.00 (Passengers of agencies who contract with Knox County CAC Transit do not pay fares.)

East Tennessee Human Resource Agency provides services throughout the region that help families and individuals.
Through ETHRA you can schedule rides one time or on a recurring basis to and from the doctor, shopping, work, school, and appointments.
In county trips are $3.00 each way. An additional $3.00 is charged per county line crossed. Additional stops are $1.00 and must be 15 minutes or less. Children under (6) ride for half-fare. One escort may ride free of charge.
Multi-county destinations.
Trips need to be scheduled 3 business days in advance.
Passengers must be ready to go an hour plus drive time from the appointment time.
ETHRA provides transportation for wheelchairs.

To request a reasonable modification of an existing East Tennessee Human Resource Agency (ETHRA) service or policy, individuals should call 865-691-2551.
Licensed adult day services provide planned physical and mental stimulation, health screenings, therapeutic activities, nutritional snacks and hot meals. Program staff design individual plans of care. Services may include: transportation, personal care (bathing, hair care), medication reminders, social services, and nursing services. Ask what is offered, depending on your needs.

National Family Caregiver Support Program – The National Family Caregiver Support Program provides weekly respite services to caregivers in the form of sitter, personal care, light housekeeping or Personal Emergency Response Systems. The the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) created the Administration for Community Living (ACL) in 2012, which includes the National Family Caregiver Support Program (NFCSP) to provide grants to states and territories to fund various supports that help family and informal caregivers care for older adults in their homes for as long as possible..
